Bollington – White Nancy

Walking Time – 2h 30min to 3h

Distance – 6.2mi

Total ascent  – 709ft

This is such a lovely walk, starting from the free car park near Bollingtons Park.

It takes you out of the village and across and up the fields to the White Nancy Monument.

White Nancy was actually built as a summer house by the Gaskell family, who lived below the hill at Ingersley Hall, in about 1815. It is stone built with external rendering and regularly painted white in order to maintain its visibility. It is thought that it may have been built at that time to commemorate the battle of Waterloo.

The views from the top of the hill by the White Nancy are stunning and well worth the climb.

From there the walk takes you down through the fields and woods and joins the Macclesfield Canal which meanders back to Bollington.

The Green Cafe does a lovely poached egg on sourdough bread, also added spinach.. yum!!
